A reminder to all budding young writers to ensure they place their submission for the Armadale Young Writers Awards by 30 June.

The competition is only open to students who reside or attend school in the City of Armadale.

There are two categories including:

Creative Writing
1st prize of $200
2nd prize of $150
3rd prize of $100
Prizes will be awarded to each of the grade groups between years 3 and 10.

This is open to students in years 3 to 10 who reside or attend school in the City of Armadale. Works must be prose only and stories should be 2000 words or less. Poetry, scripts or graphic novels will not be accepted.

Living in Armadale
1st prize of $200
Runner up $150

Living in Armadale is open to students in years 7 to 10 who reside, or attend school, in the City of Armadale. All of these age groups will be judged together. Entries can be one of the following:

  • An essay.
  • The transcript of an oral history with a family member, a local resident or business person who can talk about living, working or a past time enjoyed in the district of Armadale.
  • A profile or description of some aspect of history e.g. an old building, an historic event, biography or memoir.

Supporting photographs, maps and illustrations are welcome additions in this category if appropriate.

If you are entering the Living in Armadale category and would like to know more about the area, or past events and people, you can visit the Birtwistle Local Studies Library inside the Armadale Library to view a wide range of materials related to the area.

An extra prize will be awarded for the best work overall. This will be judged from all the award winning entries from both categories and will receive a $50 book voucher.

All place getters will receive a trophy, certificate and one free copy of the book containing all the award winning stories.

A Perpetual Shield will be presented to the school of the entry deemed Best Overall.

Entry forms can be collected from one of the City of Armadale libraries or by visiting library.armadale.wa.gov.au.

No entries will be accepted after the close of business on 30 June.
