Expressions of interest are sought for artists to deliver an engaging public art project in the heart of the Armadale Town Centre, Jull Street Mall.

Up to $80,000 has been budgeted for an artist to design, fabricate, and install a public art work that will reflect the history of the mall and the broader history of the Armadale town centre precinct.

Artsource has been engaged as art consultants to manage the public art component of this project.

Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM JP, said there was no specified concept for the artwork and encouraged an open response from artists or teams. The artwork can be in-ground, surface mounted or suspended and be ideally located for maximum public engagement.

“Artists have a blank canvas but ultimately, the submissions should reflect positively on the history of the Jull St Mall and/or the history of Armadale in general,” he said.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for local artists to conceive of an installation that is family friendly, engaging or even something that adds some functionality to the mall’s amenities.”

A selection panel comprising City Of Armadale stakeholders and an experienced arts industry specialist will assess and shortlist three to four artists from the expressions of interest received.

The selected artist is expected to work in collaboration with the City Of Armadale and Artsource during design development and installation, and submissions must be from WA residents in order to be considered.

Expressions of interest close on 19 July. For full submission details visit www.armadale.wa.gov.au.
