Budget Highlights for 2017/18

The City of Armadale believes it has taken a prudent, financially responsible approach in restricting its 2017/18 Budget to a modest 2% increase. The Budget was adopted on 10 July, following six months of careful deliberation by the Council and its Executive Team.

The Budget provides a balanced program of services and infrastructure management which reflects the aspirations expressed by our community in the Strategic Community Plan, said Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP.

“This year the City has budgeted over $37 million for investment into asset creation and renewal, developing things such as community facilities, roads, paths and parks.”

To rejuvenate the City’s facilities several large scale capital projects will commence this year including the Armadale Aquatic Centre redevelopment, and upgrade of the Champion Centre and Seville Grove Library. The newer suburbs of Piara Waters and Harrisdale will benefit from new sporting and community facilities being provided at the Piara Waters South Pavilion and playing field and the Piara Waters (south-east) playing field.

The Armadale and Kelmscott Halls will also undergo upgrades, as will several playgrounds throughout the City including Paterson Reserve and Memorial Park in the City centre.

The 2017/18 program of capital expenditure on infrastructure throughout the City includes the following:

• Road renewal & Upgrades to Railway Avenue $322,160; Fourth Road $373,890; Denny Avenue $91,000; Traffic calming - Kelmscott CBD $170,000; Westfield Road $52,390; Wright Road $35,000.
• Pathways new & renewal: Mason Road $150,000; Brookton Highway $51,320; Lake View Terrace $29,550; Railway Avenue $106,540; Armadale Road $100,000.
• Sports Lighting upgrade: William Skeet $252,000.
• Off leash dog park John Dunn Reserve - $314,000.

“We believe this is a responsible program for one of Western Australia’s fastest growing local government areas.

“It’s always a  challenge to keep cost to a minimum while providing the quality services and infrastructure required by our community,” said Mayor Zelones.
