It’s that time of year again when Hills residents are encouraged to reduce the risk of bushfire and take advantage of the City of Armadale’s Greenwaste Verge Collection occurring in Zones 1, 2 and 3 in late November.

Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said each year we remind our community to ensure that every household is prepared against the potential of bushfire.

“Householder’s preparedness makes a big difference and it is your responsibility to make sure your property is bushfire ready by clearing vegetation around the property.

“Bushfires will happen, but we can reduce the impact by being bushfire ready. Removing overhanging trees, leaf litter and dead flammable material on the ground around your property will reduce the overall risk to your family, neighbours and property.

“If you need to resort to a controlled burn on your property to clear vegetation, a permit is required and only available until 30 November. They are only valid for properties over 1200 square metres and available from the City’s Administration Centre and Animal Management Facility or can be downloaded from the website.

“Everyone living in these high risk areas should make the most of the City’s greenwaste verge collection.

“All properties should have received the flyer by now which details when to place your greenwaste on the verge for collection,” he said.

Tree branches (1.5 metre length and 150mm diameter), lawn clippings, leaves and cuttings (in cardboard boxes) will be collected during the Greenwaste Verge Collection.

Properties over 5000 square metres are required to have a firebreak installed by 30 November and maintained until 14 March 2018. Full details on installation and maintenance are available from the City’s website or can be found on page four of the 2017/18 Firebreak Notice and Bushfire Information booklet.
