Experts are predicting a longer and more severe bushfire season across WA this summer (Bushfire and Natural Hazards Co-operative Research Centre, September 2015). It is crucial City of Armadale residents are prepared for the coming bushfire season and the best way to do so, is to join a Bushfire Ready Group.

Bushfire Ready is a community driven program, established by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services in collaboration with the City of Armadale, aimed at reducing bushfire risk.

Bushfire Ready Groups provide neighbours the opportunity to network, share ideas and information and develop and implement strategies to reduce their bushfire risk.

The resilience and knowledge of a homeowner during a bushfire is crucial in an emergency situation said Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP.

“In a dangerous bushfire, a fire unit may not be available to protect every home. This means residents and homeowners need to be proactive and responsible for their own safety.

“By being part of a Bushfire Ready Group you will be mentored by a trained Bushfire Ready facilitator and local Fire Services personnel. They are a vital source of information and will provide you and your family with the practical knowledge you need to protect your home in a bushfire.

“It is an easy way to find out how to protect your home as well as get to know your neighbours and work together to protect your entire community,” he said.
