The City of Armadale’s landmark building Orchard House has won the 2015 National Growth Areas Alliance (NGAA) Congress Award for the infrastructure which has proven to be a catalyst for economic development, jobs or community connection category.

Opened in December 2014, the $19 million, four-storey complex was recognised as a leader in local government infrastructure projects for using innovative approaches to engage commercial investment and work collaboratively with private and government agencies.

Armadale Acting Chief Executive Officer Yvonne Loveland said the award was due recognition for the City’s efforts to attract investment and development in Armadale’s CBD and to meet the growing demand for modern, quality commercial office space.

“Innovation and creativity in the Orchard House development were key to this project and the NGAA award is a fantastic result for all who contributed to this wonderful facility that the City is very proud of,” she said.

“Fully funded by the City, Orchard House is the first of its kind in the area and has been a sound business venture with excellent outcomes.

“The facility has provided flexible accommodation for a growing workforce, created 130 additional jobs in a single office building, and resulted in increasing Gross Regional product by almost $15.6 million.

“Orchard House sets the tone for the City’s future plans for the Civic Precinct and is the first step in establishing Armadale as the heart of commerce in the southeast corridor.”
