Budding young writers have the opportunity to attend a series of writing workshops, and improve their writing skills in the lead up to the Armadale Young Writer’s Awards.
There will be four free workshops for students from Years 3 - 10, one for each of the year categories in the Armadale Young Writers’ Awards.
The workshops for Years 3 - 6 will be conducted by mystery crime novel author DJ Stutley, author of the thrilling Operation series of mystery crime novels for young people.
Western Australian author Deb Fitzpatrick will share her knowledge and expertise during two workshops, for Years 7 - 10 students.
Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones said the workshops are a great way for young writers to get creative and refine their writing skills.
“Children are often read to by adults from an early age, well before they can read themselves, and the writing workshops are an opportunity for them to learn how to create and tell a story instead.
“If they have a love of writing, this is an ideal opportunity to learn some tips and tricks to help them get started and work on their style of writing.
“We are keen to continue encouraging young writers and helping improve literacy levels in the community, so we are excited to host these workshops every year,” said Mayor Zelones.
Bookings are essential. Call Armadale Library on 9399 0125 to secure your place.
All of the workshops will be followed by refreshments.
