The City of Armadale's Writers’ Festival is a weekend feast of conversation, literature and the sheer joy of words.

Now in its second year the Festival will run from Friday 31 August to Sunday 2 September 2018 with a host of literary activities for everyone to enjoy.

City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said whether you are a reader, aspiring writer or simply enjoy listening to excellent speakers you will be entertained and informed during some diverse and informative sessions with authors from different genres.

“The Festival will kick off on Friday with an evening of audience participation during a discussion and reflection of life experiences with Liz Byrski and Jodie Moffat and how they informed the creation of their anthology Women of a Certain Age.

“Saturday will see several sessions throughout the day, the first being a discussion with some Australian crime writers and a tapas lunch in the Dale Bar and Bistro. Join us as Sara Foster, David Whish-Wilson, Felicity Young and host Tony Buti discuss the theme Truth is stranger than fiction – how real crime inspires.

“Later that afternoon Armadale Library will host two sessions - the first with award winning writer Norman Jorgensen who will share some tips and tricks in the art of writing for children and young adults, which may just inspire the author within you.

“Following that session is a celebration of women of the land, bestselling novelist Fleur McDonald will speak of her rural experience and how it influences and informs her writing.

“For those with a green thumb the final activity on Sunday is with master gardener and horticulturalist Sabrina Hahn, who will inspire you with her energy and knowledge on how to create a sustainable environment in your back yard”, he said.

Places are limited at these free sessions, and bookings are essential. Visit library.armadale.wa.gov.au or call 9394 5125.
