Armadale has been recognised for its commitment to creating a healthy local community, earning a Highly Commended status at a National level, in the Heart Foundation’s Local Government Awards 2014.
The City of Armadale was the sole WA local government that received recognition in the 2014 round.
The Heart Foundation’s Local Government Awards is a national scheme that formally recognises local governments that are creating healthy communities by providing initiatives that support physical activity, healthy lifestyles and a sense of community connection.
The City was awarded for giving weight to health in its strategic planning and providing good examples of initiatives to promote health within the community.
Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones said the three initiatives showcased within the City’s submission included the Cross Park Skate Park upgrade, Eat Act Live and Drug Aware Ignite Basketball.
“Being recognised at a National level for the Heart Foundation’s Awards is a great achievement for the City of Armadale.
“It is also a reflection of the enthusiastic approach and hard work of the City’s officers in implementing and promoting these programs.
“We hope the recognition for our commitment to creating healthy communities continues to raise the profile of Armadale as a great place to live, work and visit to the broader WA community and beyond,” said Mayor Zelones.
The award will be formally presented to the City by the Heart Foundation WA Chief Executive Officer, Maurice Swanson, during the launch of the City’s Public Health and Wellbeing Plan on 25 September.
The City will continue to work with the Heart Foundation WA over the next few months to promote the City’s commitment to improving health in our community.
