Armadale to shine during arts festival
Release Date:
Tuesday, 11 April 2017

The local art scene in Armadale takes the spotlight in April when the City of Armadale hosts the Armadale Arts Festival showcasing the incredible talent coming from this region.

The festival is built on the strong arts and cultural community in Armadale, and celebrates art in its many forms with 42 events over 17 days at 15 venues throughout the City.

Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said the unique community festival is in its second year and is set to grow in popularity and showcases a local culture that we can all be proud of.

“With a jam packed program of live music, urban art, dance, literature, arts and craft the festival promises to have something for everyone to enjoy.

The festival begins with the opening event the Minnawarra Art Awards; an exhibition of contemporary and more traditional works displayed in the heritage listed Armadale District Hall.

For those that appreciate urban art, head to the City centre on Tuesday April 18 and watch as four internationally renowned mural artists create their signature art on a series of walls along Jull Street, Armadale.

If you’re feeling energetic then walk the Neerigen Brook and sing along with Bibbullmun artist King Toogarr who leads his audience to the Family Festival Day; spend a Saturday night at the Festival Club and listen to quality live music from local bands; or relax and absorb the music and ambience as the Perth Chamber Orchestra performs Baroque by Candlelight in St Matthew’s Church.

“A new addition to the festival is the Armadale Writers’ Festival with a host of literary activities including a poetry slam, author talk and literary lunch with a variety of authors who will debate the world of literature over lunch”, he said.

The Armadale Arts Festival will run from 21 April to 7 May alongside the renowned Minnawarra Art Awards.
