The City of Armadale presented their top strategic priorities to the Premier and Cabinet on 30 March at the Community Cabinet meeting in Armadale.

Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM JP and CEO Ray Tame raised the Armadale Road transport link and the Armadale Justice Precinct as their top concerns for the City as a Strategic Metropolitan Centre.

“We felt we needed to focus on our highest priorities at this unique opportunity to address Cabinet,” said Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones.

“The improved functionality and safety of Armadale Road is a top priority for the City. The growth in the Harrisdale, Piara Waters and Forrestdale suburbs are nothing short of spectacular and we need State Government support to cater for our rapidly growing communities.

“Armadale Road is a strategic connector between the City’s Strategic Metropolitan Centre, Cockburn Central and the Kwinana Freeway. With more than 22,000 vehicles using Armadale Road daily, the City is urging the State Government to place the completion of the dualling of Armadale Road as a high priority project.

“The second key project which was raised this morning was the development of a Justice Precinct.

“The current Armadale court facility faces a range of issues including overcrowding, parking difficulties and needing additional resources to service our growing district.

“There is a unique opportunity at present to co-locate the Courthouse and Police Station on Church Avenue, through a land swap between the City and the State. This provides the ideal site for a Justice Precinct, enables the City to consolidate its presence on the main street of Armadale and enhances the City’s role as the heart of governance, retail and commercial activities.

“We are seeking the State Government’s continued support to enable Armadale to continue to move forward,” said Mayor Zelones.
