The City of Armadale is encouraging children to read more during the summer holidays by visiting one of the City libraries and borrowing books for the Summer Reading Club.

Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP says the Summer Reading Club is a great way to encourage a child's love of books.

“Reading a variety of different books is important as it exposes children to new vocabulary and develops their literacy skills.

“The more children read the better they become at it. If they develop a love of reading while young it can open up new worlds and enrich their lives, as it becomes a pleasurable activity.

“To participate visit the library to register, then collect a bookmark and Reading Log to record how many books or hours you read over the holidays.

“Once you have completed your Reading Log bring it into one of our libraries and show it to a library staff member to collect your reward pack”, said Mayor Zelones.

The City's libraries have lots of fun activities planned during the January school holidays. For more information please visit library.armadale.wa.gov.au or call 9394 5125.
