The number of businesses operating in Armadale has increased by 4.8% over the last year rising from 4129 to 4325 ahead of the City of Gosnells at 3.6%, the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale at 3.4%, and the City of Canning which rose 2.8%.

Given the slowing down of the WA economy in recent years, the figures are considered an extremely positive sign from the WA business community of confidence in Armadale as a key strategic metropolitan centre for greater Perth.

It will also help mitigate those Armadale residents’ losing employment as a result of the mining downturn.

Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said over recent years the City of Armadale has been actively pursuing investment for the area, so it is great to see business is responding.

“Businesses are right to have confidence in our City. Our population is growing at four times the national average, and twice the state average.

“Armadale definitely ticks the boxes - centrally located with access to a growing population and the Armadale train line, it is fast becoming the business hub of the southeast region,” Mayor Zelones said.

The greatest growth was seen in the transport, warehousing and postal industry closely followed by administration, support services and construction.

“There were also new businesses established in the area within the accommodation and food industry, which is good news for local tourism,” Mayor Zelones said.

Business development is one of the key action areas of the City’s current Economic Development Strategy.
