The City of Armadale will celebrate the culture, history and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people at its annual NAIDOC gathering on Tuesday 8 July.
The Armadale NAIDOC event will be held at the Bob Blackburn Oval, behind the Champion Centre, 76 Champion Drive, Seville Grove, starting at midday.
Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones said NAIDOC was an opportunity for all City of Armadale residents to come along and help celebrate the contributions of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the community.
“This year’s NAIDOC theme is Servicing Country: Centenary & Beyond, which gives us the chance to honour the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander contribution to the defence of our country.
“It allows us the opportunity to acknowledge the men and women, who served with honour and pride in Australia’s military conflicts around the world, recognise the role they played, and reflect on their sacrifice,” said Mayor Zelones.
There will be lots of fun, food and entertainment with performances by local cultural and community groups, including the Wadumbah Aboriginal Dance Group, the Merindas and Jarred Wall from Jake and the Cowboys.
Other NAIDOC activities will include information stalls, a children’s hub, youth hub, senior’s hub and a health and well-being hub.
This is a free event and everyone is welcome.
