The City of Armadale has awarded $115,000 to non-profit organisations through its Annual Contributions program for local projects and initiatives.

Thirteen local community organisations were awarded funding including: headspace Armadale, the Armadale Robotics Club, Fragmented Artists and the Wirrapanda Foundation.

The Australian Association for Environmental Education WA (AAEEWA) and Bedfordale Connect were successful in securing triennial funding agreements.

City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said the City is committed to supporting local groups and organisations to deliver services to its community and connect individuals to each other and the wider community.

“This year the City received 17 applications with eligible funding requests totalling $323,357, of which 13 met the eligibility requirements of the City’s Financial Assistance Policy.

This year’s Annual Contributions will assist programs that provide a range of services including support for young people with mental health related issues, preventing crime and enhancing community safety, environmental education and the development of a healthy and inclusive community.

“There were two interesting applications with new initiatives for the community received this year; The Armadale Robotics Club and Fragmented Artists.”

The City granted the Armadale Robotics Club $17,000 to partner with five Armadale schools: Cecil Andrews College, Armadale Senior High School, Neerigen Brook Primary School, Clifton Hills Community Primary School and Challis Primary School.

“The robotics clubs will run for two hours after school every week during the school year and promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) learning through hands on technology projects in robotics and coding, to prepare students to compete in either the Lego League or Robotics national, state or international teams.

Fragmented Artists received a $5000 grant to assist with the presentation of a theatre performance, PRESENTES! (Gifts), in the Jull Street Mall in 2018.

“This free public event will activate the mall with storytelling influenced by South American folklore and tango inspired music and rhythms. The production will bring together Suzanne Ingelbrecht and Cathie Travers, two highly experienced local professionals in theatre and music who will mentor and work with local emerging musician, Jake Burrows.”

In addition, the City continues to support Crossways Community Services and Starick House with a combined $22,000 in grants through triennial funding agreements awarded in 2016.
