Following months of close examination of the City’s finances, the 2016/17 Annual Budget for the City of Armadale was adopted on 11 July, 2016.

Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said in delivering the budget this year the Council and City’s officers were conscious of the pressures faced by families in difficult economic times.

“This year the City’s Community Strategic Plan and Corporate Business Plan have been the key drivers behind the priorities included in this year’s Budget.

This year the City has budgeted over $33 million towards Capital Expenditures.
Some of the major projects that will be delivered to the community this year include:

  • Design and documentation to begin upgrades to Armadale Aquatic Centre $1 million.
  • Stage 2 Piara Waters (South) Community and Sporting Facility $4.6 million.
  • Upgrade and improvement to the Armadale District Hall $3.2 million.
  • A $2 million program for the installation and renewal of Footpaths and Cyclepaths.

A $15.7 million program of civil works expenditure including:

  • Nicholson Road duplication $5.6 million.
  • Federal and State Blackspot Works to improve road safety $1.7 million.
  • Installation of new Bus Shelters $318,000.
  • Installation of new Street Lighting $483,000.

A $3.8 million program for City Parks and Reserves including:

  • Oval lighting John Dunn and Gwynne Park $1.1 million.
  • Installation and renewal of Play Facilities $440,000.
  • The City’s Urban Forest Strategy $355,000.

The Armadale District Hall upgrade will finally get under way following an extensive consultation process with the community and the promise to preserve and enhance the heritage aspects of the hall.

Another project commencing this year will be a major upgrade to the Armadale Golf Course bringing the 9-hole public course up to par for its regular patrons.

“Armadale continues to record substantial growth, challenging us to work even harder in providing the services and infrastructure required at the lowest possible cost,” said Mayor Zelones.
