The Armadale Fitness and Aquatic Centre (AFAC) was recognised as a leader in urban social and community infrastructure across WA at the 2019 Urban Development Institute of Australia WA’s Awards for Excellence on Saturday 21 September.

The Centre was presented with the prestigious Excellence in Social and Community Infrastructure Award, the third award the facility has won since it opened in March.

City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said the award was further testament to the innovative and high quality design of the facility.

“This has been an exciting year for AFAC. I am pleased the facility is being notably recognised by esteemed industry awards, putting the centre on the map in WA.

“The Excellence award recognises AFAC as a community asset for its design for a broad range of uses from recreation to rehabilitation, value for money, attractive parklands and children’s playground and added sustainability measure of utilising geothermal energy to heat the pools.”

AFAC received the award over commendable nominees including The Boulevard Student Accommodation, Shorehaven, and Yagan Square.

“AFAC exceeded our expectations. The Centre has a membership of nearly 6,000 members, and has an average of 2,000 daily visitors.”
