The City of Armadale’s Disability Access and Inclusion Reference Group is looking for community-minded advocates to play a role in promoting a positive image of people with disability in the City.
The purpose of the reference group is to work alongside the City and the community to identify local needs and implement the Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP).
The reference group will comprise a City Councillor and several City officers, with the majority of representation coming from community organisations and community members who either possess a disability or are interested in access and inclusion.
The group’s aims are to provide a pro-active platform for monitoring and evaluating the City’s DAIP, and advise on strategies for effective consultation and collaboration with the community.
Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM JP said the DAIP was designed to allow the City to plan and implement improvements to access and inclusion across a number of outcome areas including services and events, buildings and facilities, information, quality of service, complaints, consultation processes and employment.
“Access and inclusion is about ensuring that all public services, facilities and information are available to all community members, including those people with disability, so that they have the opportunity and choice to participate in all aspects of community life,” he said.
“Meaningful access and inclusion will involve a community-wide shift in attitudes, and each member of the reference group will assist in guiding the City to remain proactive in its approach to improving disability services.”
The reference group will meet quarterly and those can call 9394 5642.
