2023 Focus photographic competition
Release Date:
Wednesday, 8 February 2023

The City of Armadale’s FOCUS Photographic Competition has returned for 2023, with entries accepted until 31 March 2023.

Budding amateur photographers over the age of 18 years are encouraged to grab a camera or drone to capture Armadale’s changing face in line with this year’s theme of Remnants and Ruins!

City of Armadale Mayor Ruth Butterfield said the City is seeking images that capture aspects of the district’s history by showing the remnants and ruins of the past, either literally or thematically.

“It’s time to pick up your camera and discover the rarely-noticed remains of buildings, roads, structures or former natural features that are still visible to curious eyes,” said Mayor Butterfield.

“There may be gems in your old photo albums showing how life was in the district before the 2000s, those memories are history waiting to be enjoyed and are eligible for the bonus Pre-2000/Open Theme – scanned category.”

Hosted by Birtwistle Local Studies Library, the FOCUS photo competition’s aim is to capture present day historical reality, favouring truth over beauty or visual experimentation.

Entries close 31 March, 2023 – with an $1800 prize pool up for grabs! Visit library.armadale.wa.gov.au/focus-2023 for more information and entry conditions.
