Three budding writers from across Perth were awarded for their creative prose at the Armadale Writers Awards' presentation evening on Saturday 18 November.
The winning writers came from across Perth and received a share of a $2,250 prize pool.
Bicton resident, Paul Douglas Robertson, walked away with first place for his piece Aussie Happy Hour in the competition.
Second place was awarded to Southern River resident, Lucy Wagenaar, for The Sins of the Fathers.
Alexander Heights resident Natasha Robinson's The Rifle received third place.
The City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP congratulated the winners on their creative pieces and thanked those from across Perth and Western Australia who entered into the inaugural competition.
“This is the first year that the City has run a writing competition which was open to amateur adult writers living in WA. There was a positive response from emerging writers in Perth and the greater Western Australian community with the City receiving 143 entries.
“This is strong evidence that more competitions of this kind are needed and the City is pleased to be able to continue to enhance and promote creative writing expression across Western Australia through this competition.”
In August the Armadale Library held a free writing workshop presented by local Western Australian author, Susan Midalia, for prospective entrants, focusing on the use of language.
The winning stories will be available on the library website from 20 November.
