The sports pavilion at the Alfred Skeet Reserve has been the recipient of a Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR) Community Sport and Recreation Facilities Funding (CSRFF) grant for 2014 - 2015.
Under the CSRFF scheme up to one-third of the cost of capital programs is available to sporting and recreation clubs to upgrade facilities.
The CSRFF funding of $166,000 along with the City’s contribution of $333,000 will be used to install female change rooms, adjoining existing male change rooms, for the pavilion located on Alfred Skeet Reserve, in Forrestdale.
The grants, which are offered by the CSRFF, provide financial assistance for projects which support additions to existing facilities to increase opportunities for participation, and upgrading of existing facilities to better suit current and future needs.
The funds will support the implementation of recommendations from the City’s Master Planning for the Forrestdale Hub, which incorporates William and Alfred Skeet Reserves and associated facilities, which was undertaken and approved by Council in March.
Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones said the significant population growth in nearby suburbs, Piara Waters and Harrisdale, means increased use of existing facilities at the Forrestdale Hub.
“The existing centre requires a significant upgrade and refurbishment to the change room facility’s to cater for the community’s needs.
“The facility is well used by the Armadale Soccer Club’s three female soccer teams for training and home games, and the provision of female change rooms will bring the facility up to a standard more suited to a district facility, and cater for existing and future female players.
“This is part of our continuing commitment to ensuring that people who live in our region benefit from access to a wide range of quality recreation and leisure opportunities and the latest CSRFF funding has assisted our efforts,” said Mayor Zelones.
