Letters from the Front
Rare messages from an ANZAC soldier
Local resident Murray Hall inherited letters written by his Great Uncle, an ANZAC soldier who fought on the Western Front.
Murray spent five years compiling the documents into an historical memoir, and published Walk a War in My Shoes.
Private Ernest Alfred Hall served with the Australian Imperial Force in France and Belgium from 1915 and was working with the 1st Australian Pioneer Battalion when he was killed in 1917.
The 100 year old letters describe long days spent digging trenches perilously close to enemy lines, with little food, soaked in mud and excruciatingly cold.
Meet Murray Hall as he discusses his research in the battlefields of Europe and his quest to discover the truth about his Great Uncle's life.
