METRONET plans revealed level crossing removal at Denny Avenue

A major step towards improved safety for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians in Kelmscott was achieved in June with the announcement from the McGowan Government on their election commitment to remove the level crossing at Denny Avenue.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti confirmed Denny Avenue was the first of four level crossings that will be removed as part of Stage One of the METRONET plan.

The design for an underpass and elevated rail line at Davis Road was revealed as the preferred option, with the removal of the level crossing at Denny Avenue.

City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said after years advocating for this project on behalf of our community, we are very happy to see improvements to the rail crossing at Denny Avenue identified as a priority and that it will be the first METRONET project off the rank.

“Our residents who drive, cycle or walk in the area have experienced congestion and safety issues for many years, with the situation continually getting worse.

“For decades this level crossing has been an issue and a declared blackspot. Last year It was ranked the #1 riskiest road in WA for the second time by the RAC.

“State Government statistics show the boom gates at the crossing average a total closure time of over four hours per day. Removal of this constraint will improve traffic flow.

“With works expected to start next year, the project will greatly improve amenity for the community and assist with the City’s future plans to revitalise the precinct,” said Mayor Zelones.

Dogs of the Dale winner

The City’s photographic competition #DogsoftheDale celebrated the opening of the off leash dog park, at John Dunn Memorial Park in Kelmscott, and promoted responsible dog ownership to the City’s residents.

Dog owners from across the City posted images of their four legged friends, with spot prizes awarded throughout the campaign.

The overall winner was little Zac, a Maltese x King Charles Cavalier x Super Hero, with more than a few talents hidden under his mask. We're told he can leap through agility courses with ease, is a master of disguise, and has even jumped behind the wheel of a Gator kart!

Zac’s owner Leissa received a $250 pet photography package with local multi-award winning pet and family photographer, 7to1 Photography, and a $1000 gift card from Better Pets and Gardens Kelmscott.

Armadale District Hall

Construction works are well under way on the refurbishment of the Armadale District Hall, with a major upgrade to the entry foyer, a new roof and ceilings and removal of the old toilet block. Construction will commence shortly on the new multi-purpose hall, kitchen and toilet facilities.

Conservation works were carried out on the main hall floor to strengthen it to accommodate new foldaway tiered seating and the gallery was reverted back to the original 1936 version, providing a clearer view of the stage.

FRAMED Fiesta

The City’s annual music and arts event for 13 to 18 year olds is back again.

FRAMED Fiesta will deliver a night of live music from local bands, games, competitions and spontaneous dance battles led by DJ Tobias, a food truck and a body glitter station.

This drug, alcohol and smoke-free event is very popular so make sure you book your free tickets early to avoid missing out. No ticket – no entry.
