Armadale Road duplication forging ahead

Following the State and Federal Government’s commitment of $2.3 billion to critical road and rail projects throughout WA, the City is excited to see the $145 million project to duplicate Armadale Road forging ahead.

The City is currently working with Main Roads WA, the design engineers and the nominated contractor to finalise the details of the design for dualling Armadale Road between Anstey Road and Cockburn Central.

The City is also working with the City of Cockburn to finalise the details for the new bridge to link Armadale and North Lake Roads to the Freeway. The new State Government committed $166 million to fund this project.

The initial requirements related to land acquisition and underground service relocations are expected to commence in the near future, with the roadworks forecasted to start in early 2018, for completion in 2019.

Be Fire Safe & Reduce Fuel Loads this Winter

Every household, whether in the hills surrounded by bushland or in the new suburbs surrounded by homes, needs to be prepared for the possibility of fire.

As we enjoy the cooler months, residents are reminded to be mindful that bushfires remain a risk. So stay vigilant, reduce fuel loads near the home, and ensure the property is maintained and prepared for when summer returns.

Tips for maintaining your property this winter: prune trees; reduce fuel levels around the house by clearing long grass, leaves, twigs and flammable shrubs; ensure petrol and other flammables are stored safely; have in place an emergency evacuation plan.

Turn off your sprinklers

All households and businesses are reminded to turn off their garden sprinklers for winter and help save billions of litres of precious water.

The annual sprinkler ban is now in effect. Residents need to make sure their automatic sprinkler system is turned off until 31 August.

The winter sprinkler ban applies to scheme and bore water users. Hand watering is permitted, and residents can apply to the Water Corporation for an exemption to establish new lawns.

If people witness anyone breaching the winter sprinkler ban, which can result in a $100 fine, they can report this online at www.watercorporation.com.au/breach or phone 13 10 39.

Beware of the Amazon Frogbit!

The City of Armadale is seeking government support to ban the sale of the floating aquatic plant Limnobium laevigatum, also known as Amazon Frogbit.

Originating from Central and South America, it is an extremely invasive species. It grows quickly and has the potential to completely block our waterways, leading to serious environmental complications in the Canning and Swan Rivers. Recently it has been discovered in Balannup Drain in the City of Armadale.

City residents who own this plant and no longer require it are asked to be responsible in its disposal. It should not be disposed of in local drains or rivers. Instead, put it in your rubbish bin.

For more information contact the City’s Environmental Services Department on 9394 5000.
