Work underway for Off-lease Dog Park

John Dunn Memorial Park will soon be home to the City’s first off-leash dog park, with works underway and expected to be complete by the end of April.

There will be three designated fenced areas for off-leash dog activities including areas for large, medium and small dogs, with each area incorporating irrigated turf, shelters, seating, a drink fountain, sand pit, and landscaped gardens.

The City of Armadale is home to 11,691 dogs, who will soon be able to enjoy this fun new facility all of their own.

Junk collection on the way

February will mark the start of the annual junk collection, running for nine weeks, excluding the week of Easter Monday, and covering the entire City of Armadale across 11 zones.

Residents will have one weekend before collection commences to place their junk on the verge, with the date of collection advised via an orange flyer to be delivered at least 10 days prior to the start date.

In the interests of community safety, junk placed on the verge prior to the weekend before collection may incur a fine of up to $500 for the owner of the junk. Junk should not be placed near letterboxes, fences, utility meters, trees, buildings or reticulation, and should not obstruct the footpath or bus shelters or interrupt normal services in the area such as your bin collection service.

Residents planning to dispose of child car safety seats are asked to cut the safety straps or take them to the Armadale Landfill and Recycling Facility (fees apply), as this item should not be reused.

For further information about what is not considered junk, visit the website at armadale.wa.gov.au or refer to your junk collection flyer.

Capture Armadale's History

Recreation spaces will form the foundation for this year’s FOCUS Photographic Competition, with the theme The City at Play, launching on 1 March, running through to 31 March.

Amateur photographers are invited to capture some historical reality for the future, showing what 'play' means in 2018. How does playing today compare to the past? What new places exist for people to play in the City?

The competition has two adult categories, Present day which will feature images taken within the City of Armadale during the last five years, and Historical Category, which will include images taken within the City of Armadale before 1990.

Cash prizes will be on offer, with winners receiving a large acrylic mounted print of their image.
