Earlier starts for bin collections

In a move to ease traffic congestion on the City’s roads at peak times, the City will now begin its rubbish collections an hour earlier.

From 30 April, rubbish trucks will begin emptying bins from 6am and work throughout the day.

The move to the new time will assist with working around peak times of congestion and reduce the impact around school zones, as it will enable better route planning.

To ensure a safe and efficient collection and to avoid missed bins, residents and businesses must have their bins out by 6am on their day of collection.

Residents are also reminded to check that all bin lids are properly closed when bins are put out for collection, to minimise litter.

Armadale Road dualling underway

The first sod was turned in March to mark the beginning of the $145 million duplication of Armadale Road between Anstey and Tapper Roads.

City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP and CEO Ray Tame joined Premier Mark McGowan, Federal Urban Infrastructure and Cities Minister Paul Fletcher, and WA Transport Minister Rita Saffioti at the ceremony.

This is the result of the City campaigning with the City of Cockburn, for the dualling of Armadale Road and the new bridge to link Armadale and North Lake Roads to the freeway since late 2015.

Works are expected to be completed by late 2019.

Streamcare

The City’s STREAMCARE waterways restoration program has assisted hundreds of Armadale landowners to care for their local riverside environment.

Free native plants are available for eligible landowners to revegetate and create a healthier environment along their river foreshore.

Landowners who have a stream or creek on, or near, their property can participate by contacting 9394 5000 or email info@armadale.wa.gov.au

New path in Settlers Common open for use

The City has completed a 2km sealed trail in Armadale Settlers Common East. The path can be entered from the corner of Canns and Churchman Brook Roads.

The $120,000 project will allow walkers, bike riders and nature lovers to explore parts of this extensive bushland. During the construction, the City undertook dieback Phytophthora cinnamomi management to prevent the spread of the disease through the bushland. This included the wash down of vehicles to remove infected soil and installing bunds to stop infected surface water flowing off into dieback free areas.

Golf course opens for competition

The upgrades are complete and the greens are now officially open at the Armadale Springs Club, formerly the Armadale Golf Course.

The 9 hole golf course was officially declared open last month with a tee off by the City's Mayor and CEO. The 18 months of upgrades included full reconstruction of all 9 holes and new chipping green, irrigation system and maintenance facility.

The upgrade was funded by the City and Golf Oracle, as well as a grant from the WA Department of Sport and Recreation.
