Small Business Friendly local government initiative

The City of Armadale was identified by the Small Business Development Corporation as one of the leading local governments that are actively working to foster the growth of its small business community. Through this recognition the City is pleased to announce being ‘small business friendly’. As one of the eight designated Strategic Metropolitan Centres, the Armadale City Centre is the primary business activity centre of the southeast sector.

The City is committed to improving our local economy, providing local jobs and presenting Armadale as a key investment opportunity for industrial and commercial enterprises. The City of Armadale’s Economic Development Strategy articulates a clear plan of action for Council to play its role in helping to stimulate, attract and maintain business activity, investment and employment in the City.

For the strategy to be successful, a shared understanding and commitment is needed from State and Federal Government agencies.

As we move forward with this initiative, the City has signed a charter that incorporates commitments including establishing an advisory group to better understand the needs of small business, measures to improve dispute resolution between the City and small business, and various actions to support the role of small business in the community such as forums, events and business information.

Being small business friendly can bring many benefits for the City, including:

  • creating and promoting Armadale as a desirable location to live and establish a business
  • supporting our local economy, including providing employment opportunities building vibrancy in our community
  • collaborating and sharing with other small business friendly local governments.

Healthy Menu Options program

The City’s Health Services team is currently looking to expand a free program that recognises and promotes local food businesses that provide healthy menu options to the local community. The program was established after community feedback identified access to fresh and healthy food as one of the key local needs and wants of residents. The Health team is looking to engage with food businesses operating in the City that would be interested in participating in the program. Businesses that are currently enrolled in the program have reported positive feedback from customers and that being part of the program has opened up previously unexplored promotional and marketing opportunities.

How will your business benefit from being involved in this program?

  • Increased community awareness of your business’s involvement in the program
  • Meeting an identified need in the community to both local residents and visitors
  • Promotion of your business as a provider of healthy menu options including newsletters, HMO branded stickers, online
  • Networking opportunities.

To register your interest please contact the Health and Wellbeing Officer: info@armadale.wa.gov.au - subject line ‘Healthy Menu Options’.
