The City provides one collection of up to two mattresses each financial year for residential properties paying the Domestic Rubbish Charge.

Preparing for collection

  • Set a reminder to put your mattress(es) out on your booked day
  • Ensure your mattress(es) are on your verge by 6am on the day of collection
  • Do not place out earlier than the night before your collection*
  • Ensure no more than two items (pieces) are out for collection
  • If raining, please still put your mattress out for collection, the mattress will be collected if wet
  • Do not allow mattresses to obstruct the footpath
  • Do not place on or near structures including fences, letterboxes, water meters or on sprinklers
  • This mattress collection service is for residential properties only paying a waste rate. It does not service commercial properties or vacant land. 

* Putting your items out more than 24 hours prior to the date of your scheduled collection could result in a litter infringement of $200.

IMPORTANT - If you need to reschedule your collection, please call 9394 5444 as soon as possible to cancel your booking and no later than 12 noon on the Monday before your scheduled collection.

If your mattress(es) are not out for collection on the booked day your collection is forfeited for that financial year and cannot be re-booked.

Mattresses on verge

Up to 75% of all mattress components are recycled

Steel springs - recycled into products such as roof sheeting

Foam - recycled into carpet underlay

Husk - recycled into weed matting and mulch

Timber - recycling into kindling, mulch and animal bedding

Fabric - R&D, end use products such as acoustic panelling

How do I book in a collection?

Bookings can be made online, complete the booking form and select your collection date.

Bookings can also be made over the phone by calling the mattress collection booking number 9394 5444 

How many mattresses can I have collected?

Each residential household has one collection of up to two mattresses per financial year.

Does an ensemble base count as a mattress?

Yes, an ensemble base counts as a mattress and can be placed out for collection with one mattress as part of your booked collection.  

How soon will my mattress be collected?

Your mattress will be scheduled for the next available collection date in your area. 

What days are they collected? 

Mattresses are collected on Wednesdays. When you book a collection your mattresses will be scheduled for collection on the next available Wednesday. 

Who collects the mattresses?

City of Armadale contractor Soft Landing will collect you mattresses. They are a national social enterprise operating across NSW, ACT, VIC and WA diverting waste mattresses from landfill and recovering components for recycling. They provide employment opportunities for people who experience barriers entering the open labour market. More information about Soft Landing can be found their webpage
Can I put out one mattress and book a second mattress for another time? No, the limit is one collection per financial year of up to two mattresses

Can I save my mattress quotas for the next year?  

No, these quotas cannot be accumulated for use in following years. New allowances commence in line with the new financial year (1 July)
Can I put mattresses out during the annual verge junk collection No, from 2021 mattresses will not be collected as part of the annual verge bulk waste collection

When do I place my mattresses on the verge?

The night before your scheduled collection date only. Ensure your mattress is on your verge by 6am on your booked collection day. Placing items on your verge outside of these times could result in a litter infringement.

My mattress is too difficult for me to get to the verge. What should I do?

It is advisable to arrange for a friend/neighbour/family member to assist in advance of booking your collection.

What happens if my property doesn’t have a verge?

The collection is a vergeside/kerbside collection. The collection could also occur from a driveway. If you live in a unit you must put your unit number on the mattress and present to the kerb.   

I need to cancel my booking, what do I do?

Call 9394 5444 as soon as possible to cancel your booking no later than 12 noon on the Monday before your booked collection day.
