Protect yourself from scams - NBN Co

The NBN Co is urging residents and businesses to be vigilant of callers claiming to be from NBN Co requesting personal or financial information. There has been a significant increase in enquiries about suspected scams to NBN Co's contact centre in the past six months. NBN Co will never:

  • Make unsolicited calls or door knock to sell broadband services to the public
  • Request remote access to a resident’s computer
  • Make unsolicited requests for payment or financial information.

With nearly three in four homes and businesses now able to connect to the nbn™ access network, it’s vital the community understands the steps involved in making the switch, including how and when NBN Co and retailers will communicate with customers.

Visit the NBN Co website to understand how to identify and avoid scammers.

Community members to view iconic hall's $4.3M makeover

Community members have a chance to sneak a peek at the $4.3M makeover of the Armadale District Hall in the heart of Armadale this Saturday 30 March.

The iconic hall will re-open its doors to the public for the first time in over 12 months for community groups and members to view the redeveloped hall at a free Community Open Day from 10am to 2pm.

The refurbishment of the hall has been delivered on time and on budget, and has resulted in a fantastic outcome.

The historic hall holds a lot of history and significance to many residents who have lived in the Armadale area for many years and it has now been restored to its former glory, and received sympathetic additions.

Major upgrades included a new central entry foyer, roof and ceilings and a new multi-purpose space adjoining the existing halls, along with functional landscaping.

Community groups can also view the hall and spaces available for hire on the day, and submit a Registration of Interest to regularly hire the hall.

Devonshire teas will be available for purchase for $4 each from the Armadale Society of Artists, and entertainment will be provided by the Armadale City Concert Band.

For more information on how to register your interest to become a regular hirer please contact the City via info@armadale.wa.gov.au or 9394 5000.

Stat attack

One of Australia’s most well-known demographers and business advisors Bernard Salt has mentioned Forrestdale as one of the suburbs in Australia in the top-10 growth areas for small businesses. (“Prosperity built on Small Business”, The Australian Business Review)

The number of small businesses on a whole is growing in Australia. However WA is at a slower pace than other parts of the country with Perth CBD not falling into the top 10 growth areas.  Construction has been underpinning this growth in small business in Australia.

“There were 153,000 small construction businesses employing 1 - 19 workers in Australia last June, up 5000 over the previous 12 months.”, a significant statistic mentioned by Salt.

Here in Armadale there are approximately 1,079 construction businesses, which is the largest number of registered businesses by industry in the area. Construction is also the fourth largest employing industry in Armadale, employing 1,878 people. With the continued expansion of Forrestdale this number is expected to rise.
