Jull Street Mall Community Liaison Officer Patrols 2017/2018

The City of Armadale Council has approved the continuation of the Community Liaison Officers over summer. The Community Liaison Officers will be on patrol on weekday afternoons and peak business hours on Saturday and Sunday from November 2017 through to February 2018, extending existing private security arrangements within the two major shopping centres into the public space in Jull Street.

The Officers will be engaging with local businesses and the community to deter anti-social behaviour in the Mall. Businesses operating in the Jull Street Mall will be notified in person by City staff over the coming weeks and will also be provided with a letter of introduction (which includes a link to an online survey to complete), along with a Patrol Access Agreement for their premises.

We would like to encourage businesses to complete the pre and post security surveys, so we can gain some comparative data and feedback about the impact of the patrol service and its effectiveness.

Armadale Aspire

On 23 August, local businesses, schools, parents and City of Armadale staff and dignitaries came together to celebrate the achievements of students participating in the Armadale Aspire pilot program.

Armadale Aspire was inspired by the Kwinana Industries Council (KIC) award-winning Education Partnership Programs for Year 10 students. The City of Armadale, in partnership with local businesses and schools, provided Year 10 students the opportunity to explore the range of career options available within the Armadale region, as well as participate in career development and job-readiness workshops.

Over six days during Term 3, the students visited a range of industries in Armadale, participated in team bonding activities, and undertook career development workshops, including resume writing and interview techniques.

Thank you to the four businesses that were involved in the program: Beaver Tree Services, Daly and Shaw, Armadale Kelmscott Hospital and Alita Construction.

New liquor reform a boost for tourism operators

  • Accredited tour operators will now be able to supply liquor on their tours
  • New regulations will reflect WA's move toward a responsible drinking culture

As part of the McGowan Government's priority to elevate the importance of tourism in our state, changes to the Liquor Control Regulations 1989 have been approved.

From 13 September tour operators, who gain accreditation, have been able to supply alcohol on their tours.

This means accredited tourism businesses can now offer hospitality experiences such as providing self-serve beer and wine to guests at a barbecue dinner or creating a dining experience with alcohol while touring an attraction.

To become an accredited tour operator, business owners have to complete training with the Australian Tourism Accreditation Program run by the Tourism Council of WA.

Under the new regulations, an agreement will be held between the Director of Liquor Licensing and the Tourism Council of WA to ensure that tour providers continue to operate to an excellent standard, with the responsible service of alcohol.

Other conditions include the supply of alcohol must only be a secondary extra to the purpose of the tour and must not be provided at an additional cost.

Stat Attack

These businesses employed over 2,400 people, and had local sales of over $1,829 million in 2015/16. This would be equal to selling to local consumers, businesses and government in the Armadale area:

  • Almost 732 million copies of the Weekend West Australian newspaper.
  • Over 2 billion loaves of Woolworths homebrand sliced bread.
  • Over 538 million McDonald’s cheeseburgers.
