About Rangers

Rangers have a varied role in helping to protect the city's natural and built assets and are responsible for upholding community and public safety under the guidance of various State and Local Laws.

Rangers can assist with:

  • Animal control, including:

    • Lost and found dogs or cats

    • Dog barking complaints

    • Dog and cat registrations

    • Straying stock

    • Animal Management Facility (Pound)

  • Illegal street and verge parking

  • Littering and illegal dumping (referred to Waste Services)

  • Abandoned and impounded vehicles

  • Control of off-road vehicles

  • Maintaining and enforcing various State Acts of Parliament, regulations and local laws.

When to call Police, Fire, or an Ambulance:

  • When assistance is needed to attend to any emergency

  • Call Police, Fire, or Ambulance on 000 in an emergency or life-threatening situation

  • Call Police on 131 444 for non-emergency assistance.
