In a Local Government first, the City of Armadale has been awarded ‘Gold Star’ status under the Waterwise Building Program for its management of water use within the Orchard House building.
The program acknowledges the efforts of the City and its ongoing commitment to water efficiency to achieve a significant reduction in water use.
The City of Armadale has also achieved endorsement status under the Waterwise Council Program. This means the City can now access free education resources for use by the community, data loggers to assist with leak detection and access to ‘Greening Scheme’ funding of up to $10,000.
Mayor Ruth Butterfield said the City of Armadale is committed to water efficiency and innovation.
“The City has been diligently working towards accreditation as a Waterwise Council for some time and it’s great to have achieved this benchmark. As rainfall decreases, the added pressure on limited underground aquifers, means we have to make the most of every drop of this precious resource.
“The City has implemented a wide range of water saving measures including completing a ‘water audit’ of major facilities, using waterwise native plants in landscaping, and embedding water sensitive urban design into our Planning Policies. Finding and fixing leaks throughout the City’s irrigated spaces is of particularly high priority,” said Mayor Butterfield.
