Gwynne Park
Release Date:
Monday, 15 November 2021

Gwynne Park Skate Park is an exciting new youth facility that will open to the public on Thursday 18th November with a free sausage sizzle and community skating workshop run by The Skateboarding Project.

City of Armadale Mayor Ruth Butterfield said the redevelopment at Gwynne Park, cost at approximately $850,000, and came after extensive consultation with the community and local skate enthusiasts.

“Throughout the consultation process, community workshops were professionally facilitated, to ensure a wide range of opinions were gathered. The workshops engaged with the local youth and collated their ideas which were then integrated into the skate park design. The workshops gave the local youth a voice and opportunity to have input into what the Gwynne Park Skate Park would deliver.”

“It’s pleasing to see how this project came together, how engaged the local youth were during the consultation process, and how excited the kids are to use the facility,” Mayor Butterfield said.

The high spec skate park offers riders of varying skill levels a range of elements, including a pump bump, volcano, A-frame with rail, flat rail, manual pad, slappy bank, a variety of ledges, stair set with down/across rails, horseshoe bowl and more. The facility also provides a parkour course, picnic area including a barbecue and public toilet block. Parkour training can involve running, jumping, climbing, balancing, and other techniques to overcome obstacles.

The community launch on Thursday 18 November from 3:30-5:30pm is for beginner or advanced young skaters and is a great opportunity to meet the skating community or for skaters to show off their skills. This event is ideal for ages 10-17 years, and will require a parent/guardian to sign the waiver form on the day. This event is free, but please register online for catering purposes.
