The City of Armadale is encouraging residents to report cases of illegal dumping on road reserves, bushland areas and local streets.

Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM JP said the City is concerned about the increase in illegal dumping that is occurring, particularly in our newer suburbs including the Forrestdale Business Park.

“Dumped rubbish is creating an eye-sore for local residents. This is simply not fair to the people who live in these areas.

“If you see people dumping rubbish or junk on road reserves, parks or bushland areas take note of their details if possible and a description of the vehicle and report it to the City.

“Surveillance cameras have now been installed at Forrestdale Business Park. It is only a matter time before those doing the wrong thing are caught.

“Dumping is an expensive issue for the City adding up to $250,000 annually. The City has advised developers and their contractors that we are sending a strong message to those who do not dispose of materials correctly,” said Mayor Zelones.

People caught illegally dumping waste in bushland areas or road reserves can receive a $200 on the spot fine. Offenders may also face prosecution under the Litter Act 1979, and incur a fine of up to $5000 for an individual or $10,000 for a body corporate.

“Don’t let our community become a dumping ground,” said Mayor Zelones.
