The City of Armadale has adopted one of the lowest local government rate-in-the-dollar increases in the WA metropolitan area, opting for a 1.25% increase following last year’s rate freeze.

Council has adopted a conservative approach to this year’s budget to keep costs down while balancing strong demand for new and improved services and facilities. The City has also successfully secured a number of Federal and State Government grants to stimulate the local economy and deliver important infrastructure projects. Matched with the City’s own funding and other contributions, the budget will deliver over $49M worth of projects during the next year.

“The City is continuing to assist our sports, arts and cultural groups to provide a range of community programs and activities, and are planning on delivering a number of community events throughout the year, including the Armadale Highland Gathering and the Perth Kilt Run, Carols by Candlelight, and Australia Day,” said Mayor Ruth Butterfield.

“We have struck a balance between the demand for services and facilities, and the impact on ratepayers. This fiscally prudent budget will benefit both current and future members of our community,” said Mayor Butterfield.

The Council’s infrastructure and facilities budget includes:

  • The development of the Forrestdale Sporting Hub
  • The construction of a new public library in Piara Waters
  • The redevelopment of Morgan Park
  • Completing the renewal of the Roleystone Theatre
  • Providing a Men’s Shed in Bedfordale
  • Upgrades to Springdale Pavilion, Rushton Park change rooms, Bedfordale Hall improvements and works on the Champion Lakes Community Building
  • Upgrades to Shipwreck Park and Robot Park public amenities
  • Upgrades to Eighth Road (Wollaston to Gribble)
  • The construction of a shared path between Challis and Kelmscott train stations
  • The Westfield Heron Wetland and Landscape project, including revegetation, a new picnic area, lookout and new pathways
  • Upgrades to Alderson Reserve, Ashworth Reserve and Bronzewing Reserve as part of the City’s Parks Improvement Program and drainage improvements to Rothery Park.

In addition, the Council has allocated funds in the budget to improve the presentation and management of street scapes and verge areas across the City. This includes areas along major traffic routes, verges adjoining bushland, school verges, school crossings, and bus stops.
