Swap Don't Shop! Children's Clothing

Have your kids outgrown their clothes? Join the movement to reduce textile waste in landfill by participating in the Swap - Don't Shop! Children’s Clothing Event.

The Swap- Don't Shop! Children's Clothing event has been designed to support the community's exploration of slow fashion. It is estimated that Australians buy 14.8kg of clothing every year, equating to around 56 new items per person per year. Of this, approximately 30% is disposed of in landfill within the first year of purchase, emitting methane and leaching chemicals from dyed garments.

Embracing slow, upcycled fashion shifts our relationship with clothing consumption, encouraging us to be responsible, sustainable consumers by extending the life of clothing (and shoes) and keeping materials in circulation, rather than in landfill. Recirculating an item of clothing for nine months can reduce its associated CO2 emissions by 27%, and waste by 22%.

This is a two part event.

Part 1:

Friday 17 May

12 noon - 4pm

Bring along baby, toddler and children's clothing up to twelve years, on hangers and shoes that are worthy of a longer lifespan. Please ensure items are in good, wearable condition. Children's fancy dress and maternity wear is also welcome.

Part 2:

Saturday 18 May

10am - 11:30am

Rossiter Pavilion will be transformed into the ultimate children's clothing shopping destination, where families can choose "new to their wardrobe" children's clothing and shoes to take home. Bring a reusable shopping bag and a gold coin for entry, which will be donated to a community charity group for local projects.

Any clothing not selected for a new home on Saturday will be donated to local second hand shops.
