Services and Facilities

Waste and Recycling

The City of Armadale is committed to the provision of a comprehensive waste and recycling service for residents and aims to conserve natural resources and reduce waste to landfill.

City of Armadale waste and recycling facilities

The City of Armadale has two sites for the disposal of debris. The Roleystone Green Waste Facility on Springdale Road is for green waste only, while the Armadale Landfill and Recycling Facility on Hopkinson Road accepts both green waste and general rubbish.

Waste Management Program

The City's annual rubbish charge for each residential property is $231. This covers the City's full waste management program including:

  • a weekly rubbish bin collection
  • a fortnightly recycling bin collection
  • two annual verge collections for green waste (spring and autumn)
  • an annual verge collection for general junk (summer)
  • four tip passes

Weekly domestic rubbish collection

The City of Armadale operates a weekly domestic rubbish collection service. If you require any further information about the City's weekly domestic rubbish collection contact the City on 9399 0111.

Recycling collection

The City of Armadale operates a fortnightly recycling collection service. Recycling wheelie bins have a yellow lid.

Each year the City distributes a calendar to residents with their rates notice. The rates notice indicates the recycling area your property is located within and indicates which week your recycling will be collected. The calendar also lists items which can be put in the yellow lidded recycling bin. To request a copy of the calendar contact the City on 9399 0111.

Verge collections - green waste and junk

The City collects green waste twice a year and general junk once a year. You will be notified of these dates via a flyer in your letterbox around 10 days before the collection date.

Do not put any items on your verge until you are notified. Items placed on the verge prior to the distribution of flyers will incur a litter infringement notice.

Litter and illegal dumping

The City encourages residents and visitors to help keep our natural environment clean and litter free. Littering is an offence under the Litter Act and the City's Rangers issue fines to offenders.

People caught illegally dumping waste in bushland areas or on road verges will receive a $200 on the spot fine. Under the Litter Act they could also face prosecution and incur fine of up to $1000.

Residents with any concerns or enquiries can contact the City's Ranger Services Department on 9399 0111 during normal office hours.

Composting and compost bins

Composting is the systematic breaking down of organic material, for use mostly within the gardening environment. Recycling organic waste into the garden, in the form of compost, decreases the garden's need for water and fertiliser.

Composting converts kitchen and garden waste into dark coloured soil that is high in nutrients. It is fantastic fertiliser for your plants and helps retain moisture.

Composting is a highly recommended method for disposing of your organic waste, and can be easily undertaken in your back yard. Home composting also reduces the amount of organic material being disposed of in landfill.

Compost bins are available from the City of Armadale. 220 litre and 400 litre compost bins are available from the City of Armadale, price includes complimentary delivery within the City of Armadale. They are conical shaped, with a lid and open base.

Mulch

Organic mulch is chopped, chipped or shredded plant material that is applied on top of soils. A thick layer of up to 20 centimetres will reduce water loss from the soil and prevent weeds and soil erosion.

Free mulch (shredded greenwaste) is available to residents from the Armadale Landfill and Recycling Facility on Hopkinson Road and Roleystone Green Waste Facility on Springdale Road. You will need to load it yourself, and it is recommended that you follow the Sterilising Guidelines (PDF 25.9 KB) to ensure that weed seeds and harmful organisms are destroyed. Commercial enquiries are also welcome.

The City sells mulch in bulk quantities (minimum 5 cubic metres). This mulch has been sterilised and composted, and is delivered to your home. Prices and delivery details are available by contacting the City on 9399 0111.

Rivers Regional Council

The City is a member of the Rivers Regional Council (formerly the South Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council). The Rivers Regional Council was established by the Cities of Armadale, Gosnells and South Perth to develop strategic regional approaches to waste management. Today it consists of the Cities of Armadale, Gosnells, South Perth, Mandurah and the Shires of Murray, Serpentine Jarradale and Waroona. It is currently researching suitable technologies and sites for waste management in the future.
