Workshop to leverage off increase in tourism numbers for Armadale region
Release Date: 16 February 2012
The Armadale Visitor Centre has experienced a 10% increase in tourism activity over the last 12 months, acting as a snapshot for the health of tourism in the area.
Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones said the increase in tourism numbers was a boon for the region and encouraged local tourism and retail businesses to build on the increasing interest in Armadale by attending a day of workshops to create a competitive edge.
The workshops are being run by the Small Business Development Corporation and the City of Armadale on Wednesday 7 March at the Manse Restaurant.
"Armadale and its surrounding regions offer the best of both worlds, from a modern city centre to the lush valleys and hills of the Darling Scarp.
"Our region is brimming with heritage, history and tourist hotspots including 7 day shopping, unique shops, the Canning and Wungong Dams, walking trails, orchards, vineyards, heritage pubs and great food and coffee.
"The tourism figures alone for the Visitor Centre bring in over $1 million to the region and this is only a snapshot of tourism in the Armadale area.
"To fully benefit from the recent increase it is vital the retail and tourism sector work together for the benefit of the region and to boost visitation," said Cr Zelones.
