1985: Armadale Becomes a City
On 16 November 1985, just ninety-one years after the district was first granted its own local administration - the City of Armadale was proclaimed.
Beginning with the formation of the Kelmscott Road Board in 1894, which was changed to the Armadale-Kelmscott Road Board in 1910; Armadale moved on to become the Armadale-Kelmscott Shire in 1961 and the Town of Armadale in 1979.
In the immediate period following the proclamation of Armadale's city status, dramatic changes occurred in the civic precinct commencing with the opening of the new present day administration building.
Work commenced on Minnawarra Park in early 1987 with the relocation the
Armadale Primary School and Congregational Church historic buildings being a major part of the project; resulting in the beautiful precinct enjoyed by so many today.
